About Us

In 2003, Dr. Russell Petrak and a number of other concerned infectious disease physicians from the Chicago area founded The Metro Foundation to fill a void in the community.  In addition to supporting professional medical education in the field, the foundation was started to address a real need to provide direct care and other services to underserved populations...

With support from corporate partners, infectious disease physicians and the general public, the foundation provides high-quality education as well as access to timely, compassionate and innovative care related to infectious diseases.

Since 2003, some of the foundation’s activities and achievements include:

Presenting an annual 3-day intensive infectious disease board review course attended by over 150 physicians from more than 30 states and 4 countries.

Creating the Metro Educational Challenge, a unique online subscription-based program that prepares physicians for the board exam and helps them maintain sharp clinical skills.

Providing lifesaving vaccines to hundreds of children in underserved areas of the world.

Providing a community-based education program related to infectious diseases and sexually transmitted diseases targeting underserved and high risk youth populations.
